We are hiring!

A PhD position is currently (spring 2025) available within the Biointegrated Photonics laboratory of Jun.-Prof. Dr. Marcel Schubert. Our lab is specialising in the development and application of microscopic optical devices into living organisms for biomedical applications. It is part of the newly founded Humboldt Centre for Nano- and Biophotonics which provides access to state-of-the-art optics labs, a newly built clean-room, and in-house cell culture and nanofabrication facilities. The interdisciplinary research benefits from the high-profile biomedical research environment established at the University of Cologne, including the Cluster of Excellence - Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases (CECAD), and the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) as well as the Max Planck Institute for Aging Associated Diseases.

Within the ERC project "Hyperion" you will develop a novel nano-photonic platform for intracellular sensing. Candidates should be interested in joining an interdisciplinary team and to work in an open and supportive environment that encourages creative thinking and curiosity-driven research. Prior knowledge in single molecule spectroscopy/microscopy, nano-optics, or nanofabrication are welcome but not essential.

The call for the PhD position will be published online. Applications should be made via the Job Portal of the University of Cologne.
